You have to log in to post a message. Some messages in General are public, so that the outside world can see life going on inside. All the other tags are private.
The board has no sections or subsections like a standard old-school internet forum - it has tags instead to group threads by topic, which is good because you can put a thread in multiple tags, not just one. Plus you can edit which tags a thread has rather than having to move it around via some admin operation.
You can follow an existing thread by clicking on the Follow button by the first message in the thread, and then the board will send you an email when someone posts a new message in the thread. You automatically follow threads when you post messages to them as well. You can also follow tags.
